A Bloody Mary is a vodka based cocktail with tomato juice and other spices and flavourings, and in the United States it is usually consumed in the morning or early afternoon and is a popular hangover cure. Invented in the early 1900s there are various theories as to the origin of the drink, as well as the origin of its name. As with a lot of cocktails, there are many variations and recipes listed for a Bloody Mary, but tomato juice and vodka are always the common ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 50ml vodka
  • Ice cubes
  • ½ lemon - juice only
  • 5 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 dashes Tabasco sauce
  • 150ml tomato juice
  • Pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Parsley - to garnish

How to make

  1. Place the ice into a tall glass and add the vodka, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce and tomato juice
  2. Stir well, season to taste
  3. Garnish with a stalk of parsley
