An official International Bartenders Association cocktail, the Irish Coffee is a drink made with whisky, hot coffee, cream and sugar. The sugar is an essential ingredient and makes the cream float on top. The thick cream is carefully poured over the back of a spoon and on to the coffee and the drink is served without mixing. The coffee is drunk through the layer of cream.
A cocktail with 3 ingredients, the Alexander is easy to whip up and makes a great after dinner offering.
Named after the Ivy League college of the same name, the recipe for a Harvard Cocktail was first published by George Kappeler in his 1895 Modern American Drinks.
