The Chicago is a brandy-based cocktail that was most probably named after the city of Chicago and has been well documented in numerous cocktail manuals dating back to the 19th century.

Print instructions


  • 60ml brandy
  • 1 dash Cointreau
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Champagne
  • Lemon slice
  • Fine sugar
  • Lemon zest - to garnish
  • Ice

How to make

  1. Run a lemon slice around the rim of a cocktail glass and dip it in some fine sugar
  2. Mix the brandy, Cointreau and bitters in a mixing glass with ice
  3. Stir until chilled and strain into the prepared glass and top up with Champagne
  4. Garnish with a piece of lemon zest
