The Metropole cocktail originates from the hotel of the same name, that used to be situated just off Time Square. The Hotel Metropole was a rather seedy establishment with a very eclectic mix of clientele. The drink is somewhat dark and moody and a touch dry and dates from around the 1800s.
Also known as the Young Man, the Diabolo cocktail has nothing to do with the childhood toy that was very difficult to master. Luckily, the Diabolo cocktail is far easier to crack.
This recipe for a Coronation cocktail originates from Harry Craddock’s The Savoy Cocktail Book. Using dry and nutty fino sherry, cherry flavoured maraschino liqueur and dry vermouth, it is finished off with orange bitters and garnished with a piece of orange zest. Aromatic and warming, a delicious cocktail.
