The Hurricane is an iconic tropical cocktail that is once tried, never forgotten. It is easy to make, using rum and fruit juices. It is thought the cocktail originated in 1939 during the World′s Fair in New York City and was named after the hurricane lamp-shaped glasses that the first drinks were served in.

Ingredients

  • 50ml light rum
  • 50ml dark rum
  • 50ml passion fruit juice
  • 25ml orange juice
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1 tablespoon simple sugar syrup
  • 1 tablespoon grenadine
  • Orange slice - to garnish
  • Cherry to garnish

How to make

  1. Squeeze the juice from half a lime into a cocktail shaker over ice
  2. Pour in the remaining ingredients and shake well
  3. Strain into a hurricane glass and garnish with a cherry and a slice of orange
