The Metropole cocktail originates from the hotel of the same name, that used to be situated just off Time Square. The Hotel Metropole was a rather seedy establishment with a very eclectic mix of clientele. The drink is somewhat dark and moody and a touch dry and dates from around the 1800s.

Print instructions


  • 40ml Cognac
  • 40ml dry vermouth
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 dash Peychauds Bitters
  • Maraschino cherry - to garnish
  • Ice

How to make

  1. In a mixing glass stir the cognac, vermouth and bitters well with some cracked ice
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
  3. Garnish with a maraschino cherry
