The Rob Roy is a cocktail created in New York City in 1894 by a bartender at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan. The drink was named in honour of the premiere of Rob Roy, an operetta by Reginald De Koven. Made with Scotch Whisky the Rob Roy can be made sweet, dry, or perfect. The standard Rob Roy is the sweet version, made with sweet vermouth, ‘dry’ is made with dry vermouth and a ‘perfect’ is made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth. A sweet Rob Roy Cocktail…..

Ingredients

  • 50ml blended Scotch whisky
  • 25ml sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 piece of lemon peel - to garnish
  • Ice

How to make

  1. In an ice-filled cocktail shaker add the Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth and bitters
  2. Strain into a martini glass
  3. Garnish with a piece of lemon peel
