A Whisky Sour is a cocktail containing whisky, lemon juice, sugar syrup and a dash of egg white. It is traditionally garnished with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry. The oldest historical mention of a whisky sour was published in the Wisconsin newspaper, Waukesha Plain Dealer, in 1870. Still popular today, the Whisky Sour is a cocktail that has stood the test of time.

  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 35ml Lemon juice
  • 12ml sugar syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • ½ fresh egg white
  • Ice
  • Piece of lemon zest
  • Orange slice - to garnish
  • Maraschino cherry - to garnish

How to make

  1. Shake all the ingredients, apart from the lemon zest, vigorously with ice in a cocktail shaker
  2. Strain into an ice-filled short glass
  3. Squeeze the lemon zest over the drink so the scented oils spray into the glass
  4. Garnish and serve
